Abstract: During the climacteric period, several symptoms exist that motivate women to seek medical advice; one of the most common is the hot flush, which presents in 75%–85% of these during a variable time span. For the treatment of hot flush, several non-hormonal treatments exist; among them, veralipride has shown to be a useful treatment of vasomotor symptoms during the climacteric period. In recent times, several medical societies have discredited its use. The purpose of this review, therefore, is to define a measured position in relation to the use of this drug. On completion of this review, it was possible to conclude that this drug has an antidopaminergic mechanism of action. The recommended schedule is: 100 mg/day for 20 days, with 10 days drug free. Since the risk of undesirable secondary effects such as galactorrhea, mastodynia, and extrapyramidal can increase with use, no more than 3 treatment cycles are recommended. This drug has a residual effect that can allow drug-free intervals, which permit a longer time between schedules.

Durante el periodo del climaterio, los síntomas existen varias que motivar a las mujeres a buscar atención médica, uno de los más comunes es el sofoco, que presenta en el 75% -85% de las mismas durante un período de tiempo variable. Para el tratamiento de sofocos, varios tratamientos no hormonales existen, entre ellas, la veraliprida ha demostrado ser un tratamiento útil de los síntomas vasomotores durante el climaterio. En los últimos tiempos, varias sociedades médicas han desacreditado a su uso. El propósito de esta revisión, por lo tanto, es definir una posición medida en relación con el uso de esta droga. Al término de este examen, se puede concluir que este fármaco tiene un mecanismo de acción antidopaminérgicos. La pauta recomendada es: 100 mg / día durante 20 días, con conexión gratuita de drogas 10 días. Dado que el riesgo de efectos secundarios indeseables, tales como galactorrea, mastodinia y extrapiramidales puede aumentar con el uso, ciclos de no más de 3 tratamientos se recomiendan. Esta droga tiene un efecto residual que puede permitir a los intervalos libres de drogas, que permiten un mayor tiempo entre los horarios.

Review of veralipride-containing medicinal products following the withdrawal of veralipride form the Spanish market because of reports of serious side effects affecting the nervous system and by a number of regulatory actions in other EU Member States where veralipride was authorised. The CHMP concluded that the risks outweigh the benefits and recommended the withdrawal of the marketing authorisation for all veralipride-containing medicines (Article 31 procedure).

Revisión de productos que contienen veraliprida medicamento tras la retirada de forma veraliprida del mercado Español debido a los informes de graves efectos secundarios que afectan al sistema nervioso y por una serie de acciones reguladoras en otros Estados miembros en los que estaba autorizada la veraliprida. El CHMP concluyó que los riesgos superan a los beneficios y recomendó la retirada de la autorización de comercialización para todos los medicamentos que contienen veraliprida (Artículo 31).
